Mom wants me to share something with you that she read about today in the newspaper. It was the news that 58% of pet owners were "somewhat likely" to perform CPR on their pet. I guess she found it surprising that only slightly more than half of the people said they would risk getting germs from their furry friends. And apparently dog owners love their dogs more than cat owners love their cats cause the numbers there were, dogs- 63% and cats-53%.
Mom thinks if she took a poll of my furiends and their hoomans the numbers would be much higher. I asked her to add a poll to my blog to find out. So if you would take a few seconds to vote, (the poll is over on the right) we will see if she is right.

I know us doggies would do whatever we could to save our hoomans lives. So I would hope you hoomans could return the favor. Don't let stinky breath keep you from doing CPR on us.Thank you very much!
Here is a chart showing you how to perform CPR on a dog or cat. You can bigify the picture so you can read the instructions better. You never know when this might come in handy so take a minute to look it over. You can even save it and print it out to keep "just in case". There are lots of videos on the internet demonstrating the proper way to perform CPR if you need to see it done. Just search for "pet cpr video".
Once you know how to give your pet CPR it wouldn't hurt to go out and buy a Pet First Aid kit or get the stuff to make your own. We're not saying you should try and treat injuries or illnesses yourself, but in an emergency, these items might give your pets enough time to reach the animal clinic alive.
Don't forget to vote in the poll. I know we can do better than 58%!

Our mum is sitting here screaming with laughter after she saw that first pic of the puppy giving CPR, brilliant!!!
That chart is so useful, mum is going to print and memorise it. Great post Bijou.

I definitely wouldn't hesitate to give my dog CPR. I have no problem with dog germs at all.
My lady has that CPR chart on the big box that holds food. Great post Bijou!

I'm really surprised that someone would NOT give their pet CPR.
This is certainly valuable information (and cute pictures too!!). You never know a situation might happen where one of us furry friends needs serious help. Mom has actually had to do CPR on a friend's doggy - he got hit by a car and she rode along to the emergency vet. He stopped breathing on the way & she never hesitated to do whatever she could to help the poor little guy. Unfortunately, he didn't survive, but at least mom kept him from crossing the bridge long enough that his own mom could come and say goodbye (sniff!!).

Wow! Youza. I am sure my mom or dad would too....just have not yet had that experience. But, I know they love me too much, and animals in general....so, let's hope we will all stay safe and breathing...but if it comes time...we'll have hoomans to help us. Thanks for posting this!!!
Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,

Thank you for a very informative post! Of course I would give my two furkids CPR, I would do anything to save their lives!!! And I'm not worried about dog germs at all, they give me kisses every single day of their lives, and if I'm not dead by now, then I guess their germs are not deadly to me, lol!!
That first picture is fantastic! Too cute. That chart is great too. Thanks for sharing it. I have been looking into taking a pet CPR class too. I would absolutely 100% give my dogs or anyone else's pet CPR if need be. I wouldn't hesitate for a second. I can't imagine that there are people out there who wouldn't give their pets CPR. It is unfathomable to me. And I know that my little ones would do whatever they could to save me.
I would most certainly do CPR to save one of my pets! Please let your readers know about this new pet blog! http://coolpetpicks.blogspot.com

Hi Bijou,
Dory sent us here and what great info you have here! Thanks.
We think our humans have never thought of this and now they know and prepare themselves if we need them to save our lives in times of emergencies.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! your doggies are soooo cute! ;)

I can't even imagine some Mom/Dad's would not give CPR to their pets, stinky breath or not. I can't think of anything my parents wouldn't do for me...well, except let me get in the fridge.
Snuggles,
Twix
PS: Thanks for the info. Very good to have if we ever need it.
