Sunday's Featured Doggies

Another Sunday means three more doggies needing new homes. Mom wishes we lived on a farm so we could adopt some of these good dogs. If you don't live near Rhonda, Pancho or Nitro, please check with your local shelter to see who is available in your area.

We know very little about Rhonda. But she looks like a very sweet Rattie mix to me. I'm sure she would be a great companion for someone. Adopted dogs seem to be so very thankful and are always eager to please. Rhonda is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This older Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix is Pancho. Don't let his age fool you. He is full of energy and loves to run, jump and dance. Pancho loves attention from hoomans but is a bit bossy with other doggies. He is located in Sand Creek, Michigan.

This cute little dude is Nitro. He is two years old and weighs only 5lbs. He is a bit timid at first so would do best in a quiet home without children under the age of 12. Nitro is a purebred Rat Terrier and is located in Toronto, Canada.

Home Sweet Home

Hello furiends Banjo here. I'm making a post to thank everydoggy for wishing me well with the tutoring. Yesterday after mom left me at the vet's office, all the nice ladies wanted to hold me and give me kisses. They said I was the sweetest Rat Terrier they had ever seen. That made me feel good! Next thing I remember is being in a cage, in a room with other doggies and some cats. I didn't feel very good. There were strange smells and scary noises. I think mom was there holding me, but then she was gone. Maybe I dreamed that part. I went back to sleep. When I woke up the second time I was feeling much better and mom was there, she took me home. Bijou met us at the door. I know she was happy to see me cause she wiggled and jumped around. Mom told her to settle down. I was too sleepy to play with Bijou then, but this morning I'm ready to rassle and play. Mom says we have to play nice for now. I guess that means no fighting and chasing. Bijou asked me what I learned at the vet's office. I told her that being tutored makes your boy part sore!

Tutoring Update

Banjo is home now. The tutoring went so well he didn't need to stay any longer. I guess the little runt is smarter than I thought. I was sure they would have to keep him at least a week to teach him anything! BOL I think he might want to tell you all about it tomorrow. He says he's very tired tonight. Being tutored is hard work apparently.

Rasslin' Ratties

This video of me and Banjo was made yesterday afternoon. We spend much of our time rassling and chasing one another. We did the Ratty 500 yesterday too, but mom can't get that on video cause we are just to darn fast.

Mom also took lots of pictures of us playing yesterday. The three I'm posting below show why Banjo is getting tutored today. Well actually, little brother was going to get tutored anyway but this type of behavior made it happen sooner rather than later.

A girl from the vet's office called a short while ago to tell us Banjo was tutored without any problems and he is taking a nap now. She said he can have company later today. I don't know yet if he will get to come home this evening or not.

Oh Da Sun Shine!

"Sunshine is a welcome thing. It brings a lot of brightness." ~ Jimmie Davis

I don't know who Jimmie Davis is but I like what he said. We were so excited when the sun came out this afternoon. Mom sat and watched us play and threw the ball for me. It was a terrific afternoon! Here are some pictures mom took after the clouds went away and the sun brightened everything up.

I love this toy that Checkers sent me. It has little tennis balls on a rope so I can fetch it or play tug. My two favorite things to do!

Banjo just walked around all happy cause he wasn't shivering anymore.

I'm smiling cause mom is playing tug with me.

Banjo wanted to play too.

"It's my toy, go get your own!"

"I don't want your toy Bijou! I want mom to pet me."

Where's The Sun?

It has been cool and cloudy here for the past three days. Banjo and I ask to go outside, but then we want right back in cause it is too chilly. Mom is not to happy with our in & out routine. Today the sun is trying to peek out of the gloomy clouds but it isn't having much success yet. Here are some pictures of me trying to get mom to play fetch and of a very unhappy Banjo.

Banjo kept getting in mom's lap, letting her know he didn't want to play outside. So after she threw the ball for me a few times, they went in the house and left me outside alone. It wasn't long before I followed them into the house.

Wordless Wednesday

(The dad must have crawled out of bed to have this family picture taken. I think he's still wearing his pajamas!)

I'm Getting Tutored

Me and mom went to the vet's office today. She says I need tutored. They took some of my blood with a big needle. They will send it away to be tested. If everything is okay I get tutored on Friday. I'm not sure what this means. I asked Bijou but she didn't know either. Wish me luck.

Happy Memorial Day and An Award

Memorial Day, once known as Decoration Day, is much more than a three day weekend that marks the beginning of summer. Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in our nation's service. Right or wrong, many people also honor family members who have passed away with a visit to the cemetery to place wreaths and bouquets of flowers. However you choose to spend the day, please take a moment to remember and honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Sunday's Featured Doggies

This Sunday's featured doggies are all Rat Terrier mixes. One reason mixed breed dogs make terrific pets is they are usually very healthy because of their diluted mix of genes. If you don't live near any of these good dogs, check with your local shelter.

Audie is a nicely marked, not too hyper dog who would love a home of his own. He gets along with other dogs so would enjoy a playmate. He is located in Phoenix, Arizona.

Bernie is a handsome, affectionate little boy who was found wandering along a highway. He was thin and frightened but is now ready for a home of his own. He gets along with other dogs but due to his trauma, would do best in a home without children under the age of six. He is located in Tuscon, Arizona.

Cameo is a sweet and faithful little companion who will follow you around the house. She gets along with other dogs and loves to play chase. Cameo is located in Castro Valley, California.

Paw It Forward

Yesterday we received a Paw It Forward package from our good furiend Checkers. Opening the package was super exciting cause this very generous Peek-A-Poo sent us some pawsome gifts. We begged for the snacks until mom gave us some. They were so yummy! We played with the toys all afternoon and evening and we are at it again this morning. So a great big Thank You goes to our buddy Checkers!

If you'd like to play this game, just read the rules below then leave us a comment clearly letting us know you want to play. Go to my profile page to find my email, then send me your home address.

"The exchange focuses on doing an act of kindness without expecting anything in return other than that the recipient will, in their turn, pass the kindness along and 'paw it forward' in their own way. This is how it works...we are going to agree to send something fun, inspiring or uplifting to the first 3 blog owners who post a comment on this entry. In turn you will then post about this on your blog, link to us, then send something to the first three people who sign up to play along through your blog. There are no cost restraints, BUT don't go crazy! The little something you send can be something you made, bought, were given or found. No biggie, just a gift that will make the person smile. Maybe something unique from where you live? And, remember that kindness doesn't have to involve money; there are untold ways to help others every single day, everywhere you go - just look around." SO PAW IT FORWARD...

And The Winners Are...

A few days ago I posted about the Humane Society of The United States' Dogs Of Valor competition. We hope you were able to visit the link and vote for your favorite hero. All the dogs nominated are winners to us, but the top vote getters have been announced and we want to recognize and congratulate those doggies.

In the People's Hero Category the winner was D-boy.

Roberta Trawick and her family were sitting on the couch when an armed man busted through the front door, yelling for them to get down on the floor. With that, D-boy, the family’s pit bull, ran in from another room and charged towards the assailant. Before he could reach him though, the man shot D-boy in the head. D-boy continued to go after the man, who shot two more times, leaving D-boy with a total of 3 gunshot wounds. With his attack foiled, the man fled the home. The family got up and called for help. When officers arrived, they took the young dog to a local emergency veterinary center. Amazingly, with intense medical treatment, D-boy survived the terrifying ordeal.

In the Judged Catergory the winner was, Baby.

After an exhausting stretch of cancer treatment, 82-year-old Elwood Cardon wanted to get away. He knew his family worried about him, so one night he decided to quietly slip out of his daughter’s house with his dog, Baby. On the way to his mountain home, Elwood became disoriented and took the wrong turn. As he turned the car around, his tires slipped off the road, and the SUV plummeted 20 feet downhill where it wedged upside down between two trees. Pinned inside, Elwood honked the horn and screamed for help. No one came. The passenger side window had shattered, and as it grew colder the 5-year old Great Dane snuggled with Elwood, keeping him warm and alert. Several times she crawled out of the SUV to seek help, but each time she returned alone. Ten hours later, Baby finally got the attention of one of the remote area’s few residents. The woman followed the dog, and when she saw the wreckage she quickly called for help. Fortunately, firefighters were able to pull Elwood to safety. He was treated for a cracked spine. Update: Elwood Cardon passed away on January 28, 2009 at his home in Jemez Springs, N.M. The HSUS wishes to extend our deepest sympathy to his family.
